06:58 pm: The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

Boy, was this a crazy and fun book. It's a parallel world and history is very different from ours -- characters in books can come into the world and people from the world into the books. They had many levels of police folk and officers.

The protagonist is Thursday Next (the caracture names are good) and she's been a LitraTec -- takes care of copyrights and so forth -- and she gets dropped into a massive hunt for Hades, an evil man, literally, who has powers. Hades captures Thursday's uncle, a brain, who has a product that will let anybody into any piece of writing. Hades wants to ransom Jane Eyre and insists he'll kill the original manuscript otherwise. They work back and forth and Hades keeps winning, but then there's the end....

I'm going to start the next one tonight.

They're really good, but I find that I enjoy them best when I intersperse reading them with other books. All that wackiness in one hit is too much.

I've finished the second one and I think I'll be okay with the next two. I am going to read something else before I start the Nursery Crime series.
