07:19 pm: Rain and Pain

I was online until 12:30am today/last night and watched two of the shows I'd taped and then read the parts of the paper that I hadn't read at Vision Care. I got to bed to read at 4:30am and set the alarm for 2pm because there was a short section left and I wanted to finish the book. I actually kept nodding off and finished at 7am. Before the alarm went off later, I tutned it off and got up a bit before 3:00pm.

I still have all the pain and it's good I wasn't going out because it's raining out there. I'll get yesterday's and today's mail on my way out tomorrow (don't want to anger the mailperson) and at least it's supposed to be clear.

I cleaned Spirit's "house" today and she was upset for about 25 minutes. Usually I just wash the bed and dish and add water to the bowl, but the actual shelf under the end table was getting pretty messy from food. She doesn't have teeth so she picks the dry food up with her mouth and can't always get it smaller and drops it out of her mouth. So I took everything off the shelf and started washing the bed. I cleaned the shelf, put the bed back together, and put back the clean dish, water bowl, and pink fabric under it so she can find it easier (her nose still usually hits the water first).

I'd assumed she'd be happy in the little area she sits sometimes -- a tiny triangular spot made by the end of the rectangular end table, the side of the recliner, the side of the triangular end table, and the floor lamp. She did spend time there, but yelled at me a few times. I also changed the towel that is in that area, but primarily for keeping litter off the floor. She immediately went to bed.

The WashPost is spending a lot of space talking about how the new congresspeople will find out they won't actually get what they wanted in the existing government. What I've been thinking of is where they think they're going to live. A lot of them have more mundane jobs than the usual politico and buying or renting a house here is way too expensive for them, particularly if they have to keep a family at home. There's always some freshmen representatives who will share a house or apartment; one representative sleeps on the sofabed in his office, showering in the House gym. It sounds so nice to be in the government but I'm not sure they really know how it works.
