04:45 pm: Moving Laundry Around
And not just in the appliances. I realized that I have too much stuff to do all next week to also get groceries any day considering the breathlessness, so I'm washing sheets today and will get groceries tomorrow. The Sears guys brought the new washer & dryer right at the beginning of their two-hour window and set them up (the dryer stacks on the washer) and took the old one out. I swept as well as I could where the old one was while they were out, and I'll wash what extra shows of the floor now in a bit.

The washer is so quiet that there are times I don't believe it's running. I can hear the zipper on the pillow in the dryer hitting the inside, but nothing else. The new appliances are just enough bigger that I can't keep the buckets I use to carry water in there anymore, they'll have to go into the guest bathroom tub, but it's not used often, so that shouldn't be too bad.

Spirit, who I noticed has a nice layer of fat now, hid behind the water heater while the guys were working next to her. O cat of little brain. They'd been gone about 45 minutes before she came out and when I put a pillow in the washer, she stood in the hallway, mesmerized by seeing it going around in the cat-level window.

Shiva didn't seem to care, but today, Spirit went and sat in the hallway in front of the utility room and looked at me and looked at the washer and back and forth. I had to tell her it was wasteful to run a load without enough laundry.

Our Arwen was also fascinated by the view through the window of the new front-loader. Nobody else paid it any mind.

Our Arwen would, in the last years of her fat furry life, spend hours staring at spots on the wall the way others stare out the window. Said spots had been created by Arwen herself when she attempted to shake the ear drops out.d

She seemed to have the feline version of senile dementia and would get very confused if anything was moved. But the spots on the wall, those seemed to make her happy.

BTW, what sort of LOTR geeks does it make us that the other cat we adopted at the same time was named Morwen?

I got Brindle's eardrop spots off the wall the first time, and after that, stopped putting them in near the wall. Getting them up off the carpet was actually easier.

I'd never heard of feline dementia until a few years ago. I guess it's a testament to how well we try to treat our cats, that they can live long enough to develop it. I'm glad your fat furry one liked her spots, anyway.

Um, diverse LoTR geeks? Crossover geeks?

Our Arwen's sister is named Naomi, and I have no idea what that says about us.

Unfortunately, our washer and dryer aren't front-loaders; even if they were, they're in a small cupboard in the hall, and I keep the folding door in front of them shut, even when I'm doing laundry, so our cats needs must find their amusements elsewhere. Usually they find it after sitting on a) my keyboard, b) my hands as I type on the keyboard or try to move the mouse, or c) my head.

Yeah, all four appliances in the utility room are now bigger than the originals (couldn't buy smaller for two) and it feels like a closet! I probably shouldn't have let myself get talked into a replacement tank for the water heater by the plumber and gone ahead and paid more for a tank-less water heater. It would give me more room in there, and the smallest tank-less would be okay for a single person.

Oh, how funny! I can just see Spirit sitting in front of the washer watching the free entertainment. Doesn't take much, eh?
Do your new appliances play music for you when the cycle is finished? Mine do, different "songs" for different appliances. And they are quiet, too, otherwise. Nice!

No, one of them makes five series of three beeps and the other has a single long beep. I don't remember which is which yet. But my rice cooker (which I mostly use for breakfast oatmeal) plays Twinkle Twinkle when I set it and a melody I don't know when it's done.
