06:52 pm: Lab Tests, Meds, and New Washer & Dryer
The lab test Heshmat ordered shows how well the heart is functioning and mine is on the worse side. My TSH is still too low, which means my levothroid is too high, and the depakote level was 30 when the minimum should be 50. So I expect to get new levothroid and depakote (or maybe just take two twice a day) from the doctors tomorrow. The heart test will probably be considered with the stress test from yesterday.

But the really good news about the meds is that Kaiser is going to stay with the co-pay plan for generics! And all my prescription meds are generics! That means I shouldn't be paying more for meds now even though I'm in the Plan D doughnut hole. I'm not going to go back to spending more money, though, because I'll need this money for something else.

Like a new washer and dryer. The tech came and gave me an estimate to replace a thermostat in the dryer. The tub in the washer had started tilting and I asked him for an estimate for that, and then we started looking online. I'd guessed right -- a new front load washer with a front load dryer that stacks on top was a bit more than twice the repair price of the seven-year-old single-piece washer/dryer. He gave me a coupon for the price of his coming out plus an applicance coupon book and I started trying to buy them online. The first delivery date was 7/13. I don't think I can manage without a dryer for three weeks, so I clicked and talked to a guy who said I should go to Sears in person and see what they had.

I really should have called first because I had to walk diagonally through the store to get to the appliances and there were handicapped spots just outside that section, but they did have outdoor furniture right across the aisle and I just sat there and talked loudly to the clerk. The reason that set of washer & dryer would take so long was that they were special order, but for $90 more total, he could give me a set that was a bit larger (still fit the utility room) and will be delivered on Saturday. They're more efficient and theoretically, will be easier for me to use.

Good news on the co-pay for the meds! I hope they work out for you and you get better test results next time.

Buying new appliances is expensive, but I'm always kind of excited by it at the same time.

Yeah, I really would rather not spend the money, but new appliances is nice, and the cost was low enough that it was worth getting new instead of having the old one fixed. I hope when they take the old one out tomorrow, they'll give me a few minutes to at least sweep that corner before they bring the new ones in.

Not so good news on the test results, but great news on the co-pay. And good news on the washer and dryer. Sometimes, it's not worth fixing appliances.
