02:20 pm: Good News!
I called Bank of America and it turns out Fannie Mae considers the condo worth $144K, so I get a new mortgage! Apparently they don't actually do appraisals, they just pick a number. The Making Home Affordable mortgage is 2 points less than the current one and $200/month less in payment. All costs are worked into that except the $400 application fee, which I paid with a credit card (I can pay that off in 2.2 months). This will make a big difference in my scrimping. I'm still going to stop feeding the birds ($90/month) to help -- Spirit's teeth surgury was very expensive -- but I'll have less debt a lot sooner.

The calamine lotion didn't help with the stria (and I have no idea how to get it off the washcloth), so I'm trying the vaseline today. The early problem with that is that the only kind I could get has the baby smell.

lizzibabe came yesterday and put my new computer table together for me and I took her out to dinner (with a coupon, I admit) and we had a nice time. I'm going to a funeral tomorrow (father of the husband of our bookgroup librarian) in Maryland, so I'm getting a ride from friends driving up and don't plan to move the EEE over and start setting it up as the primary computer probably until Monday or so. In the meantime, I'll get used to having the table to my left.

Whoohoo!

I followed the Making Home Affordable links last night and learned that Freddie Mac thinks it owns my mortgage. Your good results encourage me to follow through and see what, if anything, my mortgage qualifies for.

Yes! Definitely a good idea to find out! I'd thought I couldn't get it because all the condos selling here are foreclosures and going for $80-85K, but apparently Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac aren't using those values.

Dish detergent (the kind made for hand-washing of dishes) is usually good for removing that kind of thing. If I didn't have any around, I'd try shampoo--cheap shampoo without added conditioner. Though you could probably buy a new washcloth for the price of a bottle of either...

Thanks! It's an old "scrap" washcloth, I was just worried about washing it with clothes and such while it still had the lotion on it.

Excellent news on the mortgage. Let's hope it'll work out this time around. I remember, it didn't last time.
Too bad the calamine lotion didn't work. Hopefully, the (baby scent) vaseline will.
Couldn't get onto LJ yesterday for some reason but it's working today.
Take good care,
Doris

Last time I didn't have a relationship with the mortgage processor that contacted me, and I told him it wouldn't appraise for enough and he insisted it would. I was right. This time, it's Fannie Mae setting a price instead of doing an appraisal, and it's my mortgage processor who is doing the work under a federal program, so I think it will be okay.

It's very comfortable and has a lot of extra things. The two hours getting home was not so much fun, though, and I don't think I could get things in and out of the trunk without falling in.
