Up and Down

This is a Czech movie with English subtitles and it was really gripping. The blurb says two Czech guys sneak people from Russia into Czechslovakia but a woman leaves a baby that they sell. That's true. But the movie is really about how people are prejudiced against other kinds of people -- even the liberal who works with immigrants turns out to have hate in her heart. Watching each person -- two-and-a-half families, the smugglers, the police officers, etc. -- and how they react both publicly and privately was really striking.

I highly recommend this, although if you have problems with eating odd things, skip through the first bit.
