05:24 pm: Local, Kitty, and Dream News
After I read LJ yesterday, I pushed the recliner back for a nap and slept for six hours. At least I set the VCRs right this time. My dream from that was set in the past -- I was part of a school that traveled on a train and bad people bought the school and we had to rebel.

Spirit ran right into Shiva on her rounds down the hall this morning. She just bounced back, paused for a second and went around him. This is a new step in her increasing blindness.

Last night's dream had me trying to catch up with someone. I needed to tell her something important, but she was just ahead of me.

Two interesting bits of local news:

Senator-elect Jim Webb is turning a cold shoulder to Bush:

At a recent White House reception for freshman members of Congress, Virginia's newest senator tried to avoid President Bush. Democrat James Webb declined to stand in a presidential receiving line or to have his picture taken with the man he had often criticized on the stump this fall. But it wasn't long before Bush found him.

"How's your boy?" Bush asked, referring to Webb's son, a Marine serving in Iraq.

"I'd like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President," Webb responded, echoing a campaign theme.

"That's not what I asked you," Bush said. "How's your boy?"

"That's between me and my boy, Mr. President," Webb said coldly, ending the conversation on the State Floor of the East Wing of the White House.

And the very rich county north of here, Fairfax, has decided that the homeless can no longer be served food at homeless shelters that was made at a home or church kitchens unless the kitchens have been approved by the county. They're worried about food poisoning, not that any homeless person has complained about food poisoning. So the homeless will go hundry, instead.

I keep seeing a huge table outside the homeless shelter, where people are abandoning the food they can't take into the homeless shelter...

*shakes head*

Well, when the Chairman of the County Supervisors saw that in the paper yesterday, he threw a fit and told the health department they were out of line. You'd think they would mention something to the governing body before they suddenly decide to follow laws that have been ignored for decades.
