Saturn's Race by Larry Niven and Steven Barnes

A novel of a slightly alternative future (either that or they have some historical details wrong) where the shadowy Council rules, hiding their bad operations and promoting their good ones. This covers extended age, brain recovery (there's something I'd like), altered humans and animals, and conspiracy. Lots and lots of conspiracy. Some misuse of words, for example, using "ravel" as if it's the opposite of "unravel." Best read by fans because there's a lot of SF references, particularly at the end.

I enjoyed this, although I figured out who Saturn was early on. The plot keeps moving and the characters grab you. I stayed up an extra hour last night to finish it.
