07:39 pm: Disconnect
I feel a bit disconnected today, and my time sense is off. Usually I can tell time within 10 minutes, but today I've been as much as 90 minutes off. I had a bad night -- I kept waking up covered with sweat, like before I started HRT -- so maybe that's it. I have the new sheets on the bed and the second pillow in the dryer, so when that finishes, I'll probably have a nap.

Shiva has been playing with Micey (we have the grey one with the pink tail) today, all prey. Some days when he plays, he carries Micey around and makes parent noises. Spirit has played with bigball, but is afraid of Shiva when he skitters like that.

This is from a Miss Manners column in the 12/3 WashPost I read last night:

Dear Miss Manners:
What would be the tactful way to say "no presents but a money tree" for a birthday party?"

"Never mind all that junk -- just gimme your wallet"

Yes, I think this was her most direct answer so far! In the past, she's talked about how you can't do it tactfully and so forth, but here she's just given the woman the specific answer. These folks must not read her column regularly because she had to reply to these fairly often.

She's certainly putting it in her column more often. I don't know if she's actually getting it more often. But I bet she does -- people seem to assume a lot of this kind of behavior is normal and acceptable.

*Love* the Miss Manners thing. And I can sort of understand the problem - when you're desperately short, it can feel almost insulting to be given something that's sort-of-nice, because you invariably run the mental calculation of what *else* you could have had for the money. 'Nice [item] , but I could have paid my electricity bill with that' means that you'll never appreciate the present and might end up resenting the giver.

Hope your sleep pattern improves.

Yeah, but the tradition of presents is things people need and we seem to have completely lost that.

I thought Miss Manners was a bit more restrained than that!
Hope you'll get back on track soon. Feeling disconnected is no fun and neither are night sweats.
Take good care,
Doris

No, she apparently decided it was time to tell the truth! Yeah, I'm a little disconnected today and had trouble sleeping last night.
