08:21 pm: No Snow!
We were supposed to have a half-inch starting at noon, but there wasn't any when I got up (and still isn't) so I went and got groceries.

I'm working on more BFAC webstuff and a while ago, Spirit came out from the kitchen and meowed. I told her Shiva was on the bed and she headed down the hall. She came back and checked the chair, the couch, the recliner, even the castle, and then meowed again. I said "I told you he was on the bed, come on" and led her down to the bedroom. She stood up and looked, but didn't see him and meowed, so I told her to go ahead and get up. She did, and then saw his black bulk near the bottom of the bed. She's getting pretty good at understanding words, which is good, since she's going blind.

Note that the FDA is telling folks not to eat things that have peanut butter in them (peanut butter crackers, ice cream with peanut butter, etc.) and not to eat institutional brands of peanut butter. Brand name peanut butter should be okay.

Thanks for mentioning the peanut butter, I had no idea! Now I'm worried about the Kroger peanut butter we bought, since Kroger is recalling some of their snacks with peanut butter in them.

Well, according to the news, the peanut butter paste (the stuff in snacks and such) and industrial peanut butter (giant jars used in nursing homes and such) are made at the same plant and the name brand peanut butter isn't. But if it makes you feel safer, don't use it!

Isn't funny how cats start to understand? My Spot loves sleeping on the recliner in front of the fire. When its time to close up the family room, I tell him "Time to go upstairs." He stands up and waits for me to turn off the blower and then jumps up into my arms. He's lazy and likes to be carried up the stairs.
He also begs for food at the table, but he's not annoying. He stretches up and rubs his head against the edge of the table or against my husband's leg. He's just letting Dave (hubby) know he's there. Dave tells him to wait until we're done. So Spot then sits like an Eygptian statue and watches from Dave's feet until dinner is done. He's only started to act like he really understands in the last year.
Smudgie talks to me and seems to understand when I tell her things, but she doesn't respond the same way Spot does. She's about 3-4 years younger then Spot, so maybe in a year or two she'll start understanding more.

I used to have a cat who knew about a hundred words and when he went deaf, we worked out hand signs. But Spirit is definitely picking up more now that she doesn't see as well.
