Odd Girl Out by Timothy Zahn

I read and reviewed the first two books: The Night Train to Rigel and The Third Lynx.I had assumed this would be a trilogy, but this book is not the end. It comes to a satisfactory closing, but the major plot point in all three books so far is nowhere near fixed.

Again, this is a train mystery on the superluminal Quadrail. Our agent, Frank Compton, is lured into protecting a young woman on New Tigris, but things don't go quite how they should go and people are not quite what they should be. More twists and turns and we learn more not only about that universe, but the secrets of it. Extreme genetics and secret army creation are involved. Highly recommended.
