05:30 pm: Dodgy Cats
I straightened up the bed when I got up today and the cats have been worried all day that someone is coming. Someone is coming -- lizzibabe effected a trade of her physical labor for my beadwork. She's going to carry books from the bedroom to the computer and back so I can catalog the already-read books. Now that the cats have settled down, she's due soon (and Tuesday and Thursday).

I got groceries today and as usual, the mentally-challenged bagger made the bags really uneven. It wasn't as bad as usual because I also had two boxes of kitty litter and pushed the cart to the van and brought things inside with the rolling cart. I'm washing cat blankies now.

Cat blankies? Our cats have no blankies. Our whole house, and our bodies, are their blankies.

Oh, they can sit anywhere -- they're in the recliner now -- but the ladderback chair is not soft and neither is the typing table where their heating pad is. And years ago, one night I couldn't get warm and got a scrap afghan -- lots of colors -- out of the cupboard to put over my duvet and since then, they have insisted on sitting on it at the bottom of the bed when they sleep, as opposed to snuggling up at the pillows with me. Orientals need more heat than most cats, and so hard places have to be soft and warm.

My cats don't mind hard surfaces, but they certainly don't mind soft cushions and human laps. They also very much enjoy lying under lamps. (Cue in the cliché scene of cops pointing a lamp at a suspect and demanding to know the truth.)

I'm afraid I have fluorescents and they don't shed much heat!
