Sims by L. Paul Wilson

This was the library book group book for this month and we all liked it. A company comes up with modified chimps -- they can speak and take actions and follow orders -- and a group of the Sims at a golf course ask a lawyer to unionize them. He sees it as his path to fame but as time goes on, and the dangers grow, he realizes that there really is a bigger question here -- are they sapient? There's a lot of intrigue, danger, a couple of gruesome scenes, but it has a fast-moving story with plenty of surprises. Recommended.
