Storm Front by Jim Butcher

This is the first of the Dresden Files books. Harry Dresden is a wizard who works for the police and occasionally other people. The story blends two of those cases into one with a lot of paranormal happenings. I was the only one who didn't like this, and part of it is that I have trouble suspending disbelief with paranormal things. I'd be reading and my mind would say "Yeah, right." Then there were the infodumps, the clunky writing, and the Marty Stu. Every night I thought that if I didn't have to read it for bookgroup, I could stop right then and not care what happened. I can't recommend it, but lots of people like these and the short TV series, so you might like it.
