08:14 pm: Crazy Cat
The cats woke me up at noon today. It took me a while to figure it out, but Shiva was keeping Spirit from the litterbox and she really needed to go! So I caught Shiva and took him into the bedroom with me, but she never went into the utility room (after all, I caught Shiva, I might catch her!) so I left him in there and caught her and shut her into the utility room where it took her 30 minutes to come out from behind the water heater and do her business and I finally let them both out. I got back to bed at 1:30 and since I'd planned to get up at 2, I turned the alarm off and slept until 3:30.

The Code Red and Orange were east of here, so I went out to get groceries and people were driving their carts like crazy people in the aisles. When I got to the deli for sandwich meat, she told me a dozen people had left the store without their meat and cheese (new machine where they can choose what and how much they want, take a number, and keep shopping, to come back when the number is called).

When I got home I filled the fountain and birdfeeder and am washing cat blankies. My back hurts a lot from walking rapidly chasing and picking up cats, so I'm going to sit in the recliner and watch TV for a bit before I come back for more LJ.

Ah, US air quality ratings. They go from green to maroon. I have an autoimmune lung disease, so I'm not supposed to go out in Orange or higher, although I don't remember it ever being Purple or Maroon.

It was forecast Red for part of the Metro area today, but we got an unexpected breeze that pushed it to the Eastern Shore. When Code Red is forecast, people can ride Metrobuses free, to keep them out of their cars.

Excuse me if you've already thought of this, but is there any way to have two litter boxes that are too far apart for Shiva to guard both of them?

The other place to have one is in the guest bathroom, which hasn't been used in eight years by guests, and he could guard that, too, since they're next to each other, but I'm thinking maybe he wants his own box, and the second box would solve that.

The other thing that it might be is that he's been so ready to play and dash and hide-and-seek since he's recovered from having his teeth out, and Spirit, who is going blind, wasn't interested in that when she had full sight. So there's a bit mismatch in preferred activities.

There's a vet at the Internal Medicine Vet Hospital who spends alternate weekends at a no-kill shelter down in Charlottesville and he says if I get new cats through him, he'll take care of them free for a year, and there's no charge for adoption or anything. So it would be only food and litter the first year. I'd been planning to wait until I pay off the vet bills for Giorgio and Shiva before I got more cats, but I'm thinking Shiva may need a playmate and Spirit may need a cuddler.

Cats can be so amazing, and they can drive you so crazy with their craziness. Sorry they kept you up so long!

They've been better since, and are currently asleep separately. I think Spirit is about to fall from the back of the recliner into the seat.
