Another Four Days

I did go out to get my hair trimmed on Friday, but I did it without going to bed Thursday so I slept as soon as I got home. I've been home the rest of the time -- I'm having a lot of pain from my right hip down to my knee -- and I've been sleeping a lot, too. I'm still going to try to go to the grocery today.

I got some help with connecting my Quicken software with Apple's account, and the Checking was fine, but when I repeated that with Savings, it messed up the Checking. I'm going to have to call her again today.

Some interesting WashPost things:

How the Marine Marathon Medical Tent is set up.

These look so cool -- it's the photos in the Nikon Small World (through microscopes) Contest.

This is a Mercedes-Benz ad and I noticed there was a double-asterisk at "..if it detects that you're drowsy" I looked down to the tiny words and for this it said: "Optional Equipment described. No system, regardless of how advanced, can overcome the laws of physics or correct careless driving. Please always wear your seat belt."

City of Ruins by Kristine Kathryn Rusch

This is the second book in the diving series (I hope). We see that Ivoire is trying to get away from a dangerous fleet of ships, then we see that Boss has gotten a lot of Dignity Vessels and has a fairly large staff. A number of them went to a planet named Wyr, where it's obvious that the stealth technology still is in the ground! The first ship tried to get to a station for help, and landed there, but it was much much older than it had been when they left a month before. And then a woman, with a few other people, comes to touch the ship. Yes, this is two novellas interlocked!

The story moves quickly where everybody is in danger but they don't trust each other. Even the linguists on Ivoire can't find Boss's language because it turns out that Ivoire has returned to the base five thousand years in the future than the month before. The technology they have is far beyond that in Boss's time, so when the Ivoire captain says he'll help those of Boss's staff who didn't make it off planet in time, they go. And, you know, Boss sort of slides up to him. She thinks: "Heading home with us. Heading home. With me."

I looked through Kris's website and think I may have to buy an Amazon Fire. I definitely can't afford to buy all the ones I like in paper.
