Purple Day

I watched TV last night, read the paper, and read in bed until about 6am, taking a half-hour for an English muffin and sausage patty sandwich. My stomach rumbled. I'd left the alarm at noon, but when it beeped, I turned it off and woke up by myself at 2:45pm.

Loki and Junie had a brief fight today -- Loki was lying on his side parallel to the sliding glass doors and Junie came and sat almost over him looking out the doors. Loki almost smacked her and then she really attacked him and there was hissing and flying fur.

I took the trash and recycling out on a very wet and cool day and I wasn't out enough for anybody else to see me wearing all purple. And of course, if I'd run into people who know me, they would have thought it was just a normal outfit.

What I think is a very funny cat & dog comic.

Bats Sing, Mice Giggle by Karen Shanor, Ph.D. & Jagmeet Kanwal, Ph.D

The actual title is Bats Sing, Mice Giggle: The Surprising Science of Animals' Inner Lives

This book got a really good review so I got it from the library. It has 270 pages but only 221 with the basic writing. The few footnotes were on the same page as the referent. However, it's badly proofed and the index is not accurate. It shows two page numbers for cats, but there are six equivalent mentions of cats in the book. There's Acknowledgements; an Introduction; an Epilog; Notes, References and Further Reading; and the Index.

There are eleven chapters in three Parts: Sensing, Surviving, and Socializing. The book is presented as having the very newest information, but I already knew most of it. I ended up skimming and just reading anecdotes here and there plus one chapter: Wit, Wiles and Good Fun. That chapter was, well, fun.

If you don't keep up with new happenings in biology, you might find it a lot more interesting than I did.
