More Sleep

I watched the season premiere of Psych last night, and it was as silly as usual. Then I read the paper and went to bed to read. Before I turned the light off at 4:15am, I took another narcotic and I woke up 12 hours later. Even Loki was unhappy. I'm going to have a half-tab at that time tonight to see if I can sleep right away and get up at a reasonable time tomorrow. I'd like to go back to doing that without the extra meds.

A WashPost editorial discusses how the Republicans want to keep the tax cuts for rich people, but think extending unemployment benefits is too much. Hmmmm.

Asimov's Septermber 2010

Sheila's editoral was about the Reader's Awards; Silverberg was about Asimov, but I didn't read that. There was a special essay by Aliette de Bodard on SF from non-Western countries.

There's five stories in this issue, and I truly thought one was great; I may nominate it next year:

Nancy Fulda's "Backlash" is about time travel and terrorists, and has excellent plot, characters, and action.

The others were all okay, but didn't really hit me like Fulda's did.

Back Cover of September's Asimov's

I meant to have this in the review, but I really have to tell you about this cover. It has some of the tackiest subscription sculptures I've seen. Remember the painting "Dogs Playing Poker"? Well, this is statues of Dragons Playing Poker. They have real miniature cards! Subscribe and each Dragon will come every few months! The felt-covered poker table is free!
