Code Orange Again

Code Orange and I went out carefully because I had an appointment with my primary doctor. That bit of a cold that I've had for a few months has blocked my right ear for the last two weeks so I'm having trouble hearing at all. She thinks it's the junk from my nose that's doing the blocking and ordered Flonase and told me to get Zyrtec. After two weeks, I'm to call her and tell her how they're working.

There was a line of 10 people at the pharmacy, so I just came home and called the mail pharmacy and asked them to mail it and they will.

She also asked me about a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy and I was about halfway through telling her I couldn't do the prep myself when she finished the sentence. She suggested a barium enema, which I've had before, and while they're not the most pleasant type of imaging, I can definitely handle my part.

I picked up two days of mail on Wednesday and got all three Netflix discs. I decided to watch the one I sent back before and the machine thought it wasn't a disc. The machine didn't like another disk, or the disk cleaner. I know what this is: the laser has died. I know this because I called them a couple years ago with the same problem six days before they wouldn't fix it. Clearly it's been a lot longer than six days.

I decided to watch it on the other machine, but at first, the VCR part kept pushing the tape in and out and the DVD wouldn't come on. Then I saw it almost all the way out and grabbed it, wiggled a little, and it came out. Just the very first length is crinkled, so I'll try one of the other tapes I've used in case it dies again. So right now I have VCR on one machine, DVD and maybe VCR on another, and VCR on an old machine without a digital tuner.

After I post the DVD review, I'm taking a nap. I had some trouble reading a minute ago.

The Beat My Heart Skipped

This is in French, which made beading a bit easier, but I still had to watch a good bit of it.

A young man who has spent his life as a ruffian is now a "real estate broker" who, when he wants land, delivers rats, turns off power and water, and uses baseball bats to break windows. He and his partners are trying to illegally sell this land that isn't their and abscond with the money. His dad wants him to get the rent money from a tenant and we find that a Russian mobster is taking the money instead. He tries to talk the mobster into paying his father and the next day, his father has been shot.

He runs into the guy who managed his mother, who was a pianist. The guy offers him an audition and our young man finds someone to help him get his skills back. The work he does on the piano becomes entwined with the illegal real estate work to the point where they had to kick people out of a building late at night the night before his audition. He can't manage the audition and the maybe-manager tells him to come back when he's better.

Two years later, he's with/married the Chinese woman who helped him with his skills and she's going to have a big concert. He lets her off and on the way from parking, he runs into the mobster and kills him. He can't get the blood completely off himself, but still goes to the front row to listen to the girl.
