The Nephrologist

We went over my labs from Wednesday and the BUN is back where it should be and the GFR is up three points, but most of the other kidney-specific labs are worse. She says the BUN went up because of the prednisone and I'm not getting enough protein to repair the body so I have to go up to 50gr/day even though it will make me spill more protein. I really need to get off the prednisone, but it's making my permanently-swollen right eustachian tube open and I can hear better. Better hearing is not as important as getting off the meds.

She ordered a generic Fosamax -- not the one I should have, but the only one on the Medicare formulary. The one she ordered is supposed to be taken every week and has a fancy delivery system to make sure you take it that way. I'm going to take it every two weeks. She trusts me to do it, and I'll set it up by putting the dates on the cardboard, but it is a little weird that only the one dosage is in the formulary. I have enough Vitamin D in my multivitamin.

I do a batch of labs every two weeks indefinitely and see the nurse practitioner in two months on a day that the nephrologist is also there, so they can consult (they're short of nephrologists -- I waited an hour in the exam room to be seen) and was put on the wait list for her for four months.

Before I left today, I put part of a can of wet food on a dish and made sure I covered all of it with the innards of a pouch and when I got home, it was all eaten, so I'll do that tonight and see who's eating how much of it and continue/adjust on that basis.

I hurt like crazy today, probably from sitting up for so long in a straight chair, so I'll be taking time in the recliner as well as online and narcotics so I can go to library bookgroup tomorrow.

The Boys and Girl of County Clare

This is the story of Irish brothers who play Ceili. One brother lives on the family farm (Bernard Hill); the other has a Ceili band in Liverpool (Colm Meany). They're both on their way to a Ceili competition. They try to keep each other from getting there and from being able to play in rather nasty ways. The farm brother has a female piano player whose daughter plays the fiddle (Andrea Corr). A member of the Liverpool band falls in love with the fiddler and old bad memories come up from the brothers and the piano player. Will the young ones go together?

The movie was fine, but it clearly had a .75 naked woman, silhouetted sex, and a lot of "fucks" added to ramp it up to R because the plot was definitely PG-13.
