04:26 pm: Finding Neverland
The first time I tried to watch this, the disc would only show me 45 minutes scattered throughout the movie. Netflix sent me a new disc and while the added 101 minutes added meat to the plot, it was still a pretty mediocre movie.

This is the story of how J.M. Barrie came up with the ideas for Peter Pan -- meeting four boys and playing with them, and the premiere of the play. None of the actors, even Johnny Depp, really stood out. The boy who played Peter looked like he was going to burst into tears any second. It got a batch of Oscar nominations and I can only guess that was more for the idea than the execution. It was satisfactory background for some beading.

04:39 pm: Heat of Fusion and other stories by John M. Ford
It always takes a while to read something of Mike's because of the many references buried in the text. This collection was no exception, and I expect to read it again in a few years and find more references I missed this time.

There are only a few traditional stories in this collection, but there are many stories in verse form as well as poetry. Mike retells some stories in his own viewpoint, giving us a new look at them. He tells some story cycles in verse, and uses the Tarot to form the frame for some verses.

If you want a book of short pieces that will make you stop and think, this is it.

Also, I found another copy of this book -- good condition with dust jacket, one black dot on the top edge from being remaindered. I'm happy to send this to whoever asks first for the cost of shipping media mail, which would be $2.47 in the US.

04:43 pm: Hot Day
88F today, and tomorrow, so I think groceries will wait until Tuesday when it's a bit cooler. Nice quiet day; the grackles are still dropping sunflower seeds in the fountain.

I meant to mention this last Sunday, but I'm working on clearing out my book (almost all SF by SFBC) and CD collections and I've been putting them up for auction (and ending them) on Sunday afternoons. Last week was books, this week CDs (including one filk -- Made by Magic by Kathy Mar and Zander Nyrond), next week probably some of both. My eBay ID is mjlayman in case anybody is interested.
