Stage Beauty

This movie is set in King Charles' time (with the spaniels) when Charles makes the big change that allows women to portray women on stage. There's lovely use of language and good acting, although I thought at the end that the dresser had learned to play a woman better than the male former-female-playing actor learned to play a man.

Wizard and Demon by John Varley

These are the second and third books in the Gaia trilogy. In Wizard, many years have passed since Titan and Cirocco has become a drunk while Gaby is doing maintenance all over the wheel. We meet some new people and start off trying to interview each regional brain to find out if they're willing to overthrow Gaia. Bad things happen.

Demon starts twenty years after the end of Wizard with mostly the same cast. It's time to get down to business and bring down Gaia who has incarnated at a fifty-foot tall Marilyn Monroe. I liked this book best. There was more characterization, more plot, more urgency.

Strange Dreams

I've been talked into making this more of a regular blog, so here goes.

Last night's dream started with me winning a tour of a closely-held island that made a luxury item in secret. (I think it was cranberries.) I got a guided- and guarded- tour and found a lot of interesting things about the island, the people, and the product, but then I was abruptly locked in my guest suite. Listening at the door, I find out that my guide & guards had let me see something they shouldn't have and now they were going to make me have an "accident." I didn't want that, so I made a wig from the curtain fringe and a fancy dress from a blanket. I picked the lock and crept out while the guard was asleep and got to the ferry back to the mainland without being caught.

We thought winter was here, but it's going to be 74 tomorrow. Good for the kidlets.
