04:32 pm: I Voted!
For Obama. My idealistic side won out.

I was really sleepy when I got up early for Lucila, more than usual, and indeed, I didn't wake up when she opened and shut the sliding glass doors as usual. She had to call my name to wake me up when she was ready to leave.

Then Luke and I went to vote. The odd thing was that there were no people with signs outside. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at primaries before, but it's been 29F, so maybe it was too cold. There were more people staffing the poll, but not more people voting than usual. We were supposed to get flurries today but instead we got sleet, which made ice on the roads. Fortunately, we were home just as the sleet started, but the news says the streets are iced all over the area.

Even with the heat up in the van, I was cold enough to want something hot when we got home and I had the orecchiette pasta from Bertolli. Almost all my protein for the day, but I like it and it made me warm.

I can't remember what state you live in, but in Minnesota during February, 29 Fahrenheit would have been considered warm. Six below, now -- that was a couple of days ago, and that would have kept most sign-carriers indoors.

Re: Weather

I'm in Virginia, and while we usually have a few days this low in winter, it's relatively quite cold here.

Do they give you an 'I voted' sticker in Virginia? In Georgia you get one with a picture of a peach on it.

Yep, we got stickers, but ours are pictures of a curved flag with a red checkmark over it. It's just like the last one, which is still on the floor of the van. This one went in my coat pocket. I should get it out and give it to Spirit when she wakes up. She likes sticky things and the waxy paper that they come with.

this and that

I'm commenting on several things at once because I'm seriously behind on my reading and writing.
It'll take a while to get over losing Giorgio. I'd keep the hankies handy and watch the driving for a bit. Grief is a process that has to be worked through, there are no short cuts.
I hope the cold spell doesn't last much longer. But if it does - snuggling up with the kitties and having hot pasta is one of the better things I can think of.
Hopefully, the wildfires won't last long, either. Strange to think of fires in winter, isn't it? We tend to have them in the fall after dry summers before the rains start.
Take good care,

Re: this and that

Yeah, I picked up his ashes today and cried more. The wildfires are out. Apparently sleet really kills fires.
