Giorgio Died This Morning
The on-call vet woke me up at 8:30am and told me the urine culture was negative, so there was no chance of saving him. She said the assistants said he'd become lethargic and cold overnight so I told her it was time to put him to sleep. She kept assuring me that she thought I made the right choice. She wanted to know if I wanted to come see him first, but I'd rather my last memory of him be yesterday's when he kept trying to get out of the exam room. He wasn't moved to the emergency hospital -- that's why she called me then. If I was going to decide to let him go, then I didn't need to get that expense. They're going to arrange the private cremation and let me know when the ashes are back. I'll settle up when I pick up the ashes and my carrier.
You know, he went into the hospital on February 6th and I went into the hospital for the first renal failure on Febturay 7th, 21 years ago. I know this is silly, but I feel like there's some connection.
We couldn't have soft toys because Giorgio ate them, so I've ordered some toys from Petsmart for the other two. They're both on the cat furniture -- Shiva in the castle, Spirit on top. Spirit thought Lucila was coming, that's generally the only reason I get up this early, but I couldn't go back to sleep. I cleaned up the kitchen and the dishwasher is running. I put away the clean clothes I washed a few days ago and put the dirty clothes in the hamper. I had some tea and a banana -- it's too close to my night meds to take morning meds.
I'm going to see how far I get with catching up with yesterday's LJ and Making Light before I need to nap.
