05:41 pm: Some Interesting Things
First, snitched from Comicmix, a really interesting nine-minute film by Jim Henson without puppets.

Then, while I was out today, I saw three bloodmobiles. A little googling shows there's a lot of blood-giving today, but not why.

Also while out to get groceries, I saw a bumpsticker that said:

My kid is an honor student
& my president is an idiot!

Finally, a new mother has been denied extra time off from her medical licensing test to pump breast milk. The judge has given her some options, including waiting until next year to take the test (so she doesn't get her job for another year?). I've never had kids, but I know plenty of nursing mothers who have massive pain (and the possibility of infection) if they can't nurse or pump regularly. I think the judge is wrong here.

She's not the first nursing mother to take the test. The licensing test does offer a break and the other nursing mothers taking the test have found that they can complete the test under those conditions. She's already getting accommodations for other problems, I think that the people offering the test felt that they had done enough.

I noticed the accommodations for the other things, and I wondered if she would actually be a good doctor with those.

She seems to be going into research, so her problems might not be as noticable in that field as say, in the ER. And she's taking the test over two days, not one, so she's not going to be stuck in a room for nine hours to begin with! It sounds like the board did try and make arrangements for her to be able to pump milk or even breast feed.

Over two days, she should be able to pump enough in the breaks each day. This is starting to not make as much sense.

Yes, and the board is appealing again. I wonder who will be ahead by 10/4.
