04:54 pm: Diffuse the Bomb!
I wish I could link to this, but the WashPost is showing last week's articles for their TV Week. This week they had short bits on new shows and for Chuck, one of the "Things You Won't Like" is that he can "diffuse a bomb in seconds." I dunno, most bombs diffuse in seconds.

Okay, clearly a typo for defuse, but we do see bombs defused in seconds on lots of shows -- they don't happen in real time, after all -- so I don't think that's actually a bad thing about Chuck. I'll watch it tomorrow and see how it goes.

I get an image of bombs fizzing into non-existence. Dunno why.

Well, when you diffuse things in water, they tend to spread out and become less noticeable. But I was thinking of the "spread out widely" meaning of diffuse -- bombs do spread out widely.

Ah. I was thinking of them diffusing (harmlessly) into the air. But I suppose that explosion is a form of diffusion too. Rather rapid.
