High School Musical 2

I've had this on tape for a while and watched it last night. I happened to watch the original High School Musical when it premiered on a night with nothing else to watch and I had handwork to do, and I liked it. Singing when appropriate, appropriate backgrounds, reasonable plot. Well, forget that for the second one.

This one had a moral coming a mile away; it was painful to watch. It had a secondary plot and moral that was not only unrealistic, but has to be reversed if there's to be another sequel. Almost all the music was overproduced -- not just choreography, but the voices were so lost in the music that they could have been generic. In fact, in one piece where there were two duets (four kids) right after the other in the same song, I couldn't have told one from the other. Maybe that's what they wanted -- processed teenypop -- but it wasn't good. There was too much singing, too. Lots and lots of production numbers, not enough dialogue. I think I'd have to be desperate to watch another sequel
